Soldotna, Alaska: Access to King, Silver, Red and Pink Salmon
oldotna
is prominently located on the Kenai River, and is a major
fishing town. It was started in 1947, when World War II
veterans were given a 3-month preference on homesteads in
order to boost the population on the Kenai. Now a major
community, Soldotna provides access to salmon, including
kings, silvers, reds and pinks. Excellent fishing spots
include the Centennial Park Campground, located downtown.
Fishing is no joke in Soldotna: in 1985, the world-record
king salmon, weighing over 97 pounds, was caught here.
