Ninilchik, Alaska: A Town With History
everal
of Ninilchik's homes date from the 1800's including the
first Russian school house and the Russian Orthodox church
(shown on the hill in the photo below left). Two major rivers,
Deep Creek and the Ninilchik River, pass through town. You
can catch Dolly Varden and salmon in the rivers, or you
can go by boat into Cook Inlet for huge halibut and salmon.
Along the beach, you can dig for razor clams. Halibut weighing
over 450 lbs. have been reported caught near Ninilchik.
Ninilchik is also a good place to fish for salmon, steelhead,
or dolly varden. From here, you can see Mts. Spurr, Redoubt,
Iliamna, Augustine and Douglas - all volcanoes. |
