Denali National Park, Alaska: Drive to Savage River

Denali Park road will take you close to Mt. McKinley, but
there's a hitch: independent travelers can only drive down
it as far as Savage River, 14 miles within the park boundaries.
To get any closer to Mt. McKinley (if you're not flying
to it from a jump-off point like Talkeetna), you have to
take a bus.
Even if you're planning on taking a bus later on, the drive
to Savage River is highly recommended. At left is the scenic,
