Delta Junction, Alaska: Where the Buffalo Roam
ou'll
see a number of references to Buffalo and Bison as you travel
around Delta Junction. Originally called "Buffalo Center,"
the town was named in recognition of the 23 Montana bison
that were brought to Delta Junction in 1928. These Ice Age
animals used to be common in Alaska, but were wiped out.
There are now estimated to be around 1,000 bison in the
state of Alaska, and around 500 of them live near Delta.
Watch for them as you drive through the region. |
