Delta Junction, Alaska: Delta Winter

he open wilderness near Delta was bisected by the Valdez-to-Fairbanks trail. The trail ran from Valdez north to Fairbanks, where gold had been found. It was 371 miles long. Although the trail could be walked on foot, it took two weeks by stage. Roadhouses (some of them only rough cabins or tents) dotted the trail. This is a Delta Junction landscape similar to those travelers in winter might have seen, with the nearest roadhouse miles away and night coming swiftly on.
