Big Lake, Houston & Willow, Alaska: Outdoor Life in Big Lake

ig Lake is, as you might guess, a great place to camp, picnic or go boating.

There are 3 excellent public places to camp on Big Lake.

To get to the first one, turn on to the Big Lake Road at Mile 52.3 of the Parks Highway. Around 3 miles down the road start looking for the fork. At Mile 3.5, just before the fork in the road, there's Rocky Lake Wayside, where you can picnic or camp.

Alternatively, if you go straight ahead on Big Lake Road to Mile 5, you'll end up on the lake itself, at Big Lake North Wayside, where you can camp, picnic, and use the boat launch.

There's another campground at Big Lake. Follow the South Big Lake Road from the fork in the road - to Big Lake South Wayside, which also offers boating, camping and a picnic area.

This is the fish viewing platform on the Big Lake Road, a great place to view some sport fish, including lake trout, Dolly Varden, salmon and rainbows.
